Hello, I'm Lenka
My full name is actually Lenka Ševčíková – an everyday name in my home country of the Czech Republic. Since I've been living in Luxembourg, however, I've found that it's not so easy to pronounce here. That's why I use the name Lenka Seva for my art, which is how I sign all my paintings and works.
Am I an artist?
Actually, I should confidently write at this point: "I am an artist." But honestly, I don't quite dare to, even though I spend a lot of time drawing and painting. The word "art" has something unattainable about it for me. That's why I prefer to focus on the joy of creating – on free thinking, playing, and experimenting. Whether someone later calls it art? That would be a wonderful bonus.
Back to childhood
Playing is the main reason I paint. It takes me back to a carefree childhood where you could simply try things out – without a goal, without a plan, simply because it was fun.
I don't paint for grand messages or social criticism. For me, painting is a game. Colors are my building blocks, with which I test what I can create. What's important to me is to get in touch with myself and bring a piece of me into visible form – ideally in a fear-free state, when I feel the energy of joy.
My work
Besides free painting, I also work in surface design. There I create, for example, fabric patterns, postcards on specific themes, or products for scientific institutions.
Let's start a conversation
I'm very open and enjoy working with other people. Are you looking for an illustration for your project? A custom painting? A creative surface design? Then let's talk! Feel free to write me an email (hallo@lenka.lu)
My Educational Journey
Diplomas and titles aren't that important to me – but I love learning itself. Here's an overview of my education:
Art School
Graduated in graphic design. Here I learned the fundamentals of painting, photography, drawing, and sculpture – but above all, creative thinking and innovative problem-solving. During this time, I also began teaching art courses for children.
University: Art Education
I enjoyed working with children and teaching came naturally to me. At the Faculty of Education, I combined my two passions: art and children. At the same time, I worked as a freelance illustrator for a children's magazine, performed in improv theater, and spent 6 months as an exchange student in Nuremberg.
Homeschooling (6 years)
After the birth of my two children, I decided to teach them at home. I was their teacher and mother at the same time – we learned together and did many exciting and adventurous things together. This period brought me valuable experiences and deepened our relationship. Meanwhile, I attended courses in intuitive pedagogy with Pär Ahlbom and taught painting courses for seniors.
Lifelong Learning
Language courses (German, French, Luxembourgish), online courses in illustration and marketing – I enjoy learning something new every day. For me, learning is a lifelong process.
