Dancers
A New Approach: The Collection
This is the first time I've consciously worked on a collection. Normally, I let my intuition guide me when painting and draw inspiration from the current situation. But this time, I wanted to tackle a specific theme: I decided to give my paintings a framework and chose dancers as my subject. I'll explain why in a moment.
Dancers: The Muse of My Paintings
In my entire dancer collection, there's really only one dancer – and that's me! My appearance changes depending on my mood, but the truth is that each of my paintings tells a story about me and the love of dance that I discovered a few years ago.
I dance every day and treat myself to a joyful holiday feeling! For me, dancing is like an energy booster that brings joy and fresh momentum into my everyday life. With every movement, I let go of all worries and immerse myself in a world full of lightness. I wanted to capture this freedom and joy of life in my paintings.
From Sketch Pad to Canvas
At the beginning, I made many sketches to figure out what would interest me most in painting. I drew the dancers in my beloved style – with clear lines and playful distortions. This approach allowed me to maintain the joy of creative work and turned the process into an entertaining game, just as I experience it when dancing.
After completing the sketches, I transferred them to canvas. They served merely as a guide. Since the process was very important to me and I wanted to let go of my notion of "good art," I skipped preliminary drawings and went straight to work. Sometimes I didn't manage to draw the lines right away and had to redo them. In such moments, I asked myself: What do I do with the failed lines? I decided to leave some visible and not paint over them, to emphasize the creative process.
The Freedom of Imperfection
During the painting process, I realized that I was initially convinced I needed to fill in my dancers or provide them with a background to create a beautiful picture. But I let go of this conviction. I painted over such paintings and started anew. This time, I stopped painting as soon as I felt I had expressed everything essential. This way, I remained authentic and didn't let myself be distracted by the pursuit of perfection.
My paintings are expressive and reflect my love for creativity and dance. I hope you can feel the energy.
